FAQs

What precious metal should I choose?

Sally is happy to make your custom ring design in all golds and platinum.  Some Shop items are also available in silver where specified.

9ct yellow gold is a beautiful coppery colour and 18ct yellow gold is rich and buttery.  This is due to the gold content which is twice the amount in 18ct gold.  This difference in gold content is also reflected in the price.

9ct white gold is creamy white in colour and 18ct white gold includes a higher palladium content resulting a rich, natural grey tone.  High street white gold jewellery is often rhodium plated to appear brighter and white in colour.

9ct rose gold includes copper to give it a rich red colour but 18ct rose gold is softer and buttery to reflect the higher gold content.

Platinum is the hardest of the precious metals with a gentle grey tone.

Often, the final colour is determined by the design, textures and gemstones used in the finished piece. Sally is happy to talk customers through the options and to provide quotations for a range of metals to suit your budget. She can also provide examples of all golds and platinum.

Can I choose between recycled or Fairtrade gold?

Absolutely.  Sally is happy to provide a quotation in both metal choices.

Can I supply my own precious metal?

Yes, Sally is happy to use your own precious metal where possible.  Items considered for re-modelling must carry a hallmark. Please ask for Sallys guide to remodelling jewellery for prices and details.

How will I know if a ring will fit?

Sally provides a sizing service for all customers visiting her studio and she can send a set of ring sizers and advice to customers further afield.  She is also happy to send a ring design to a customer during the making process to ensure the ring fits prior to gemstone setting to ensure a correct fit. Most local jewellers are also happy to provide a sizing service free of charge and we recommend asking to be measured on an appropriate sizer for a narrow or wider ring band.

The ring is a surprise gift.  How do I ensure the sizing is accurate?

Does the recipient have a ring that currently fits the same finger?  If so, Sally can take a measurement from this or she can provide details of how the measurement can be taken.  Please ensure the ring fits this finger only as a sizing taken from another finger or the opposite hand will not be accurate.
